Mark Peters’ new single ‘Sundowning’ is taken from his acclaimed new solo album ‘Red Sunset Dreams’, and features vocals from former One Dove singer and songwriter Dot Allison.
The album version is backed with two brand new remixes by DJ and producer Richard Norris – one adds a subtle shuffle to underpin the mournful beauty of the track, the other strips almost everything away for a floaty ambience.
“I love the way Richard subtly re-edited many of the elements on his remixes,” says Mark. “The almost hip-hop groove transforms the song from sunset melancholia to an ambient ode to a Balearic sunrise. It was nice to hear all the elements so clearly and Dot’s chants are given room to breathe and soar beautifully.”
The song is named after a condition associated with people suffering from dementia, where a person’s behavioural patterns change towards the end of the day.
The original version provides an appropriately hallucinatory ending to ‘Red Sunset Dreams’ and Dot recently made her first live appearance in 14 years to join Mark and his band onstage at Rough Trade East in London for a stunning live version to celebrate the album’s release.
“‘Sundowning’ is the track that defined the project,” explains Mark. “Every element I added cried out to be rootsy and when Dot added her beautiful vocals it was obvious the piece would provide the album with a climactic feeling of resolution.”

What a beautiful album! It's so quiet, yet highly dramatic. Bleached by the Sun just melts me. This work feels wholly original, yet carries vibes of Kate Bush and quieter Goldfrapp moments. Warren Harrison

I love the album and am making some deep grooves in Way of the World, Riverside, Sidewinder and This is Our Year. But I especially love Holiday in the Sun, as it’s so relaxing and relatable…
